Giving back to Community

Giving Back to Society - HARI RAYA 2024

We are delighted to share the success of our recent community event where we had the privilege to continue our “Giving back to Community” alongside Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Mr. Lawrence Wong, at Limbang Community!

.

Last year at Limbang CC, we distributed Goodie Bags and “Green Hong Baos” to 110 families. Building on that momentum, this time, on March 23rd, 2024, we extended our efforts further by providing 150 families with “Green Hong Baos” and groceries goody bags for needy families.

.

It was a heart-warming occasion, marked by the presence of Deputy Prime Minister & Finance Minister Mr. Lawrence Wong. Attendees were treated to sumptuous food for “Buka Puasa” and enjoyed an insight into the values of fasting and the blessings of the month significance of Ramadan.

.

We are grateful for the opportunity to serve our community and look forward to continuing our efforts to make a positive impact in the lives of those around us. Together, we can create a brighter future for all.

.

Thank you to everyone who contributed and participated in making the event a success!

Giving Back to Community - Hari Raya 2023

Once again, we have done our duty to the needy and under privileged.

On April 8th 2023 at Limbang CC we gave out Goodie Bag and “Green Hong Baos” to 110 families.  It was a wonderful occasion, graced by Deputy Prime Minister & Finance Minister Mr Lawrence Wong served with sumptuous food for “Buka Puasa” and beautiful rendition of Malay songs.

DPM Mr Lawrence Wong received a big welcome and DPM gracefully sat on the floor, as the Muslims traditionally do in a Kampong atmosphere, with the residents for “Buka Puasa” (Breakfast).  Later, DPM went around, shook hands with each and every resident and gave out goodie bags filled with Biscuits, Cookies, Fragrant Rice, Cooking Oil and other Groceries and “Green Hong Baos”.

This event is the latest in SSBEC’s “Giving back to the Community” project.

Every year, SSBEC gives out Goodie bags and Hong Baos to the needy during Chinese New year, Hari Raya Puasa, Deepavali and Christmas.

Deepavali

The year 2022 is about to end. We wanted to finish it with a bang. What better way than our very own “Giving Back to the Society” project! We celebrated Deepavali by chipping in to help needy residents of Limbang, which is part of the  Marsiling–Yew Tee GRC. About 50 families received goodie bags and an “ang pow” of $50 on 5 Nov 2022.

The guest of honour was our Deputy Prime Minister & Finance Minister Lawrence Wong who is the Adviser to Limbang. The event was organized by the Limbang’s Indian Activity Executive Committee (IAEC). Our COM members and staff also joined in the noble cause.

Mr Wong handed out goodie bags comprising rice, oil, salt, sugar and some Indian cookies. The residents were very grateful to SSBEC for the “ang pows” which will come in handy for the Deepavali celebrations. Once again, SSBEC wishes all Hindus a peaceful and joyful Deepavali.

For this year’s Deepavali celebration about 50 Hindu households for Woodgrove division of the Marsiling–Yew Tee Group Representation Constituency received Deepavali goodie bags from the “SSBEC Giving Back to the Community” event on 8th October 2022.

This is part of the co-operative’s annual programme which aims to bring cheer and happiness to the public during festive seasons. This event is the third time the society is linking up with the GRC. It is part of a larger community outreach programme by the Singapore Statutory Boards Employees’ Co-operative Thrift & Loan Society Ltd (SSBEC), which holds true to the “Concern for community” principle of the co-operative principles.  The initiative began last year and the co-operative aims to make this an annual event. There will be similar community outreach events for Hari Raya, Christmas and Chinese New Year. It is an ongoing collaboration between the Singapore Statutory Boards Employees’ Co-operative’s (SSBEC) and Sheng Siong Supermarket which provided free labour and delivery assistance.

Guest-of-honour and adviser to Woodgrove division of Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC, Ms. Hany Soh, Member of Parliament, joined volunteers comprising of the Committee of Management, staff of SSBEC, SNCF and the Indian Activity Executive Committee (IAEC) of Woodgrove at the event.

Ms Soh handed out the goodie bags comprising essential items such as ponni rice, oil, salt, sugar, murukus, cookies and mixed snacks to mark Deepavali this year. The event, supported by the Singapore National Co-operative Federation (SNCF), also saw the co-operative hand out more than $1,000 in red packets to these families.

The Singapore Statutory Boards Employees’ Co-Operative Thrift & Loan Society Ltd wishes the Hindu residents a happy and peaceful Deepavali.

Happy Nurses' Day

In conjunction with Singapore Nurses’ Day, SSBEC has randomly selected members from the nursing community to receive our SSBEC branded backpack filled with selected goodies.  Healthcare professionals around the world have made tremendous strides in the battle against the pandemic, with nurses playing critical roles. It is because of your tender care and love that made a difference in the lives of so many!

Giving Back to Community - Hari Raya 2022

About 100 low-income households for Limbang division of the Marsiling–Yew Tee Group Representation Constituency received Hari Raya goodie bags from the “SSBEC Giving Back to the Community” event on 9th April 2022.

This is part of the co-operatives annual programme which aims to bring some cheer and happiness to the public at large during festive seasons. This is the second time the society is linking up the GRC. There will be similar community outreach events for Deepavali, Christmas and Chinese New Year. It is the first collaboration between the Singapore Statutory Boards Employees’ Co-operative’s (SSBEC) and Sheng Siong Supermarket which provided free labour and delivery assistance.

Guest-of-honour and adviser to Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC – Limbang, Mr. Lawrence Wong, Minister for Finance, joined volunteers comprising of the Committee of Management, staff of SSBEC, SNCF and the MAEC of Limbang at the event.

Minister Wong handed out the goodie bags comprising essential items such as fragrant jasmine rice, oil, salt, cordial juice, Hari Raya biscuits, instant oats and instant coffee to mark Ramadan and Hari Raya this year. The event, supported by the Singapore National Co-operative Federation (SNCF), also saw the co-operative hand out more than $2,000 in green “habuan” packets to these families.

SSBEC Chairman Mr. S. Gulam said:  “Holding true to the co-operative spirit  to do good, besides taking care of our own members, we also give back to the community at large. It’s not a big sum. It may not relieve all their issues. But, in our own small way, we want to help them celebrate this festival.  “Co-operatives are organizations that should put people before profits and should exemplify the real meaning of triple bottom line and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) considerations.”

It’s celebration time for our Muslim friends. After a month-long fasting, prayers and good deeds, they will celebrate Hari Raya Puasa on 13 May 2021.  We, at Singapore Statutory Board Employees’ Thrift & Loan Society Ltd (SSBEC), reached out to our low income friends through our “Giving Back to Community” project over a two-day period. We distributed Grocery Bags and Hongbaos to 550 families in Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC on 24 & 25 April 2021.

Seeing the smiles on the recipients’ faces made it a memorable weekend for us.|

Our sincere thanks to Minister for Education Lawrence Wong, Senior Minister of State for Defence & Manpower Zaqy Mohamad, North West District Mayor Alex Yam and MP Ms Hanny Soh for their wonderful support.

Our thanks also to our parent body SNCF and the MAEC (Malay Activity Executive Committee) members at the four constituencies

Chinese New Year 2021

SSBEC participated in our first ever community outreach programme with Ren Ci Hospital @ Bukit Batok on Sunday,23 September 2018. SSBEC is grateful for this opportunity given by Ren Ci Hospital for us to give back to the society. We had a great time with the elderly playing games, singing oldie songs, making crafts and above all, spreading love and joy to their day as we enlighten our hearts. We hope to seek more of such opportunities in the near future as we spread happiness to the community.

We spend One day at MTFA and Darul Ihsan Orphanages care for vulnerable youths and orphans in the community. Our support and contribution create a nurturing environment on that day
